About the Makers
Every hook comes direct from Kofi’s workshop in Kumasi, heart of the Ashanti region. As a master brass‐caster, Kofi draws on techniques passed down through decades, transforming molten metal into vessels, weights, and now decorative hooks.
How Your Purchase Makes a Difference
-
-
Cultural Preservation: Keeps alive the Akan lost‐wax casting methods used for centuries to make goldweights.
-
Economic Empowerment: Fair‐trade pricing ensures Kofi and his family earn a reliable income.
-
Community Impact: A share of proceeds supports local apprentices learning the craft.
-
How these Brass Crocodile Wall Hooks are Made
-
-
Wax Model: Kofi sculpts the crocodile design in wax, just as Ashanti goldweights were modelled.
-
Investment & Casting: The wax is encased in clay, heated out, then filled with molten brass.
-
Finishing: After cooling, the clay is broken away, revealing the brass casting. Kofi then hand-finishes each piece, adding details and ensuring quality. This ancient technique, dating back over 600 years, is the same method used to create the famous Akan goldweights that were once used in Ghana's gold trade.

Care
Your brass hook will naturally develop a patina over time, which is part of its beauty. To maintain the original brass shine, clean gently with a soft cloth and brass cleaner. For a more aged look, simply dust regularly and allow the natural patina to develop. The brass is naturally antimicrobial and will last for generations with proper care.
