How to host one incredible picnic

23/6/2021

One Gin have long inspired us at Social Supermarket with their mission to fund clean water projects. 10% of all sales goes towards The One Foundation, a charitable organisation that helps to provide access to sanitation and clean drinking water for the world’s poorest communities.

One Gin’s pre-mixed G&T cans are also a picnic essential that make having a tipple in the park super easy – as well as impactful. We handed our blog over to the team at One Gin to talk all things picnics as well as suggest a totally British sandwich – with a gin-infused twist, of course.

We are delighted to bring to you a simple way to host one incredible, ethical picnic this summer. We believe that making ethical, sustainable choices shouldn’t mean you compromise on quality or flavour. So we’re thrilled to be part of these hampers, next to brands that share our values.

All of the hampers include our brand new One G&T cans, the perfect picnic partner. They’re light, low sugar, and low ABV, so you can enjoy them on a sunny afternoon completely guilt free. Available in two flavours, the first uses our award-winning One Sage Gin, mixed with a specially developed premium tonic water and a twist of fresh orange zest, delicious out of the can or over ice with a twist of orange. The second gin and tonic uses the popular One Sage & Apple Gin as a base, perfect to enjoy on the go, at a picnic or over ice with a crisp apple slice at home.

A One GIn picnic including G&T cucumber sandwiches

If you’re looking to take your picnic to the next level, we have the perfect recipe for you. If you’ve seen any of our social media pages before, you might have noticed that we love putting a One Gin twist on our favourite recipes. We couldn’t resist experimenting with the classic afternoon tea treat, the cucumber sandwich.

Many of us use cucumber as a garnish for gin due to its mellow, floral flavour, so why not soak some cucumber in gin?! This simple step elevates the traditional treat we all know and love.

G&T Cucumber Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 250g cream cheese
  • 25ml One Sage & Apple Gin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 1 English cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 handful of rocket

Method

An hour before making the sandwiches, use a vegetable peeler to thinly slice the cucumber.

Transfer the cucumber slices into a bowl, add 50ml of One Sage Gin, and leave to soak until ready to prepare the sandwiches.

In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, salt and pepper. Spread about 1 tablespoon of cream-cheese mixture onto 1 bread slice.

Layer cucumber and rocket. Top with a second slice of bread.

Cut each sandwich into 3 rectangles & serve.

We believe that one small act can make a big difference. That’s why we donate 10% of profits from every product sold to The One Foundation, who help provide clean water to some of the world’s poorest communities. So far, The One Foundation has changed 4 million lives, and with your support, they can continue to give people around the world the gift of water.

Now you have all you need to host a fabulous picnic, here are our top 5 parks in London:

Richmond Park: One of the top parks in the UK (and our personal favourite!), this park covers 2500 acres and has protected status as an important habitat for wildlife. Not only is it a beautiful place to explore, but it has tonnes of history, the royal deer park has been in effect since the 17th century, and the beautiful White Lodge was originally built as a hunting lodge for George II after he gained the throne in 1727.

Kew Gardens: This really has something for everyone, with thousands of beautiful plants and trees and plenty of activities, there is something for the whole family. The Rock Garden is particularly stunning at this time of year, with wild-collected plants from 6 mountainous regions of the world.

Chiswick House & Gardens: This is one of the most glorious examples of 18th-century British architecture and landscaped gardens, rather than a conventional home, Chiswick House was a bold architectural experiment. Simply explore the grounds, visit the gallery, or attend one of the many events or markets, we might see you there!

Gunnersbury Park: Dare we say, a hidden gem?! This park is often overlooked yet has so many wonderful things to explore. A beautiful cornflower meadow, formal gardens, a tranquil pond, this park also hosts many events from markets, drawing clubs and nature rails.

Bushy Park: At over 1000 acres, Bushy Park is the second-largest of London’s eight Royal Parks. Bushy is famed for its mix of waterways, gardens, and roaming herds of red and fallow deer. One of the park’s defining features is the Longford River, a twelve-mile canal created entirely by hand in the 1630s, a perfect opportunity to spot some of the arresting birdlife, from kingfishers to kestrels.
