Branded ballpoint pens that work harder
A printed ballpoint pen is still one of the most cost-effective ways to put your logo in someone's hand, and it gets used every day. The difference here is the material. Instead of virgin plastic, the pens in this range are made from recycled and renewable materials, so a giveaway that often ends up in landfill can carry a genuine sustainability story instead.
Materials and how they write
More than a third of this range uses recycled content. The most common builds are recycled plastic, including RCS and GRS certified recycled ABS and recycled PET (rPET) made from drinks bottles, alongside natural bamboo, wheat straw blends, and barrels and clips made from recycled paper or card. Metal options in recycled and anodised aluminium suit a more premium feel. Most click and capped models take a smooth German Dokumental refill, and many are refillable so the pen lasts well beyond a single ink cartridge.
Branding your pens
Your logo is usually applied by pad print onto the barrel or clip, the standard method for plastic and bamboo pens. Metal pens can be laser engraved for a clean, permanent mark, and digital and screen printing are available where you need fuller colour. Minimum order quantities and lead times vary by pen and print method, so both are confirmed on each product and at quote.
Why buy from Social Supermarket
These pens are curated by Social Supermarket, a certified B Corp. We choose them for their recycled or renewable materials and check supplier credentials rather than taking eco labels at face value, so the sustainability claim holds up. Frequently asked questions
What are sustainable ballpoint pens made from?+
The pens in this range use recycled and renewable materials in place of virgin plastic. Common builds are recycled plastic (including RCS and GRS certified recycled ABS, and recycled PET made from drinks bottles), natural bamboo, wheat straw blends, and barrels or clips made from recycled paper and card. There are also metal pens in recycled and anodised aluminium.
Can I have my logo printed on the pens?+
Yes. The most common method is pad printing your logo onto the barrel or clip, which suits plastic and bamboo pens. Metal pens can be laser engraved for a permanent finish, and digital and screen printing are available where you need fuller colour. The print methods offered are shown on each product.
Are these ballpoint pens refillable?+
Many are. A large number of the pens take a standard German Dokumental refill, and refillable models let you replace the ink rather than the whole pen, which extends its life and reduces waste. Whether a pen is refillable is noted on the individual product.
What is the minimum order quantity and how long do they take?+
Both vary by pen and by the print method you choose. Minimum order quantities and lead times are confirmed on each product and finalised when we quote, so you can plan around your deadline before committing.
What makes a ballpoint pen more eco-friendly than a standard one?+
A standard promotional pen is typically moulded from virgin plastic. The pens here reduce that impact by using recycled content or renewable materials such as bamboo, wheat straw or recycled paper, and refillable designs cut down on single-use waste. We describe the specific material on each pen rather than relying on a vague eco label.
Do you offer recycled plastic pens made from drinks bottles?+
Yes. Several pens are made from recycled PET (rPET) sourced from used plastic drinks bottles, and others use RCS or GRS certified recycled ABS. The recycled content is stated in each product's description so you know exactly what you are ordering.
